Note: 30 day fans read at your own risk

Eve of the world cup. Unarguably the biggest spectacle on planet earth where billions and billions of people are stuck on their couch for a whole month while everything else (well most of it) is put on the side burner. The focus is solely on one thing and one thing only, game of two halves played by 11 people each in two teams who sole purpose is to just win. And by win I mean not just the trophy but also the hearts and praises of the paying audience. In this process of trying to achieve immortality, many lose their heart, some lose their senses, some let go of their judgement while a few have even lost their precious lives. But the chosen few who pass their way through every barrier, who wade their way through every defence, who light up the whole world with one wave of their lacy wands and those who stand their ground and say “Thou shall not pass”. One who play as one and move as one, those who stay through cracked walls or missed spells and say “We Never Give Up” do eventually come up trumps. This game that we all love is not a sport that takes too long to churn up a result but can feel like an eternity if your team is not doing well or on the flipside it can feel like a supersonic ride as well. World cup is a tournament like no other as it puts the mettle of best minds and bodies through a plethora of tests. Some giants fall others rise to the occasion but then there are some who defy all the odds and shine like a crazy diamond shaking off all the shackles. A span of 30 odd days brings out a lot of emotions and character in people across nations, races, ethnicities and all stemming from the conclusion of what happens during 90 minutes.
As a certain ad said “After every four years the world has one time zone” we all will be glued to our idiot boxes all in the same moment but the clock would makes us believe otherwise.  Many of us will sacrifice sleep, some of us will sacrifice working hours all in the name of this beautiful game. Support to the teams cut across seas and oceans because this game truly belongs to the world unlike many other sports. Here we all support teams we believe in, we take inspirations from, we support players who are idols to us more than that we love the game that they play and how they play. You may live somewhere in Asia and support a team in Europe just because you like how they play or even idolise some of their players. It’s all about who you believe in and sticking through with them just like players do on the pitch. Many new fans will emerge and start loving the game, some as always will come out of the closet join the party just because everyone in the world is watching and shut themselves in after a month. As in every other sphere of life this is part of collateral damage and we have to live with it (may get harrowing due to advent of social networks especially facebook in the recent years). My suggestion would be to turn the volume up and let their questions drown out in some Samba. Thinking of Samba reminds me of the host country i.e. Brazil, the land of beaches carnival and football. A country embroiled in internal wars of conflict, strife with protests at every venue and environmental issues as well. People in developing countries can relate to this easily as the money being spent to organise this event is immense and can be used elsewhere for development of the country instead. But the authorities that be ignore the pleas of the people as always. All I hope for the country which loves football like its own life is that this tournament highlights some good aspects of the country which can help them in turn for much needed resources. They have made this game what it is today which is why it should help them up and not drag them down instead.
With that the stage is set for the carbon to turn into diamonds, the path is in front of the traveller who dares, the light shines upon the man who sets himself apart, the spectacle is set to be set afire with the sparks of geniuses from across the globe. People shall sing dance and chant about their heroes and teams, egging them on for their aspirations, tribulations and jubilations are intertwined.

All shall be revealed on July the 14th. Till then let the caravan roll on and do some Samba in the name of football …
